Hosting is as important as ever as the speed and performance of your page is heavily reliant on the kind of horsepower it has in the background.
But which hosting provider is faster – Siteground or Dreamhost?
But please don’t take my word for it.
Just keep reading till the end and see what my research managed to find.
Here we go…
SiteGround VS Dreamhost: Which hosting provider is the best?
When you’re trying to build a new website and enter the digital marketplace, you’re faced with a challenge.
You need to get a domain name and a host but there are countless of different options when it comes to hosting.
Today I’m going to review Dreamhost and SiteGround so you can see which one is the better option for you and why.
But which is the better option for you – SiteGround or DreamHost?
In order to see which hosting is better I’m going to compare them side by side in 7 important categories:
- Little background information
- How fast is each hosting
- What is the uptime
- How secure is your website
- Plans and price comparison
- Which hosting has the better features?
- Customer service – tried and tested
- And finally a quick overview and final decision of which one is better? – Siteground or Dreamhost
Let’s start the comparison by learning some of the basics behind each one of the companies.
About SiteGround Web Hosting
Founded in 2004 by a team in Bulgaria, this hosting service has gained the attention of millions of people through its very attractive price point and custom features that cannot be found anywhere else.
And SiteGround has proven over time that that in order to be one of the best, you need to have a certain level of functionality and reliability that people would love.
See for yourself the amount of positive reviews they got in Trustpilot.
About Dreamhost Web Hosting
On the other hand, DreamHost is most commonly known as a company that provides hosting services on the cheap side.
In other words, you have very flexible price points, so you can begin your online adventures while paying almost nothing.
DreamHost is a US-based host service provider that gives users access to many useful features, such as unlimited storage, weekly backups, a great level of support, and an SSL certificate for their websites.
But what about performance? – How each one stands agains the other?
When it comes to performance, we will be looking at 3 main things that will truly impact the way your website behaves:
Let’s start with the most important factor in today’s age – the website speed.
1. SiteGround Speed vs Dreamhost Speed
Here are a couple of things you should know about each hosting when it comes to speed.
When compared to the others SiteGround’s server has one of the fastest page loading speeds of little under 200 ms: through its custom-made speed-boosting technology.
The reason behind this is because of they custom-made speed-boosting technology and the 6 world-wide data centers that store your website.
And when WordPress is installed with the most commonly used plugins, you really get those numbers.
And as such, you can expect server loading times from little above 400 ms.
Which isn’t bad but it’ more than double of the speed you get from SiteGround.
Who is the fastest hosting – SiteGround or Dreamhost?
The average loading time for many websites is 7 seconds.
So in any case, both hosting services provide a better than average performance, but SiteGround is the clear winner in this test with it’s server resonse time of under 200 ms.
2. SiteGround Uptime vs Dreamhost Uptime
I base all of these facts on research done by professional companies in the industry and as such howshosts.com tested both of these service providers and found the following in a period of 7 days:
SiteGround had an uptime of 99.99%.
DreamHost had an uptime of 100%.
The difference is almost non-existent, which is a good thing as you want the highest level of performance possible.
No hosting service can provide 100% uptime 24/7 for 365 days a year due to the flaws of physical systems so bear in mind that is physically impossible to keep everything at 100% all the time.
So most of the time you’re at 99% to 100% for just a couple of days due to the small hiccups that might happen with the servers hosting these websites.
The same can be said about anything – nothing is 100% perfect.
Who has a better uptime – SiteGround or Dreamhost?
Even if the results are almost the same facts don’t lie and I have to give this round to Dreamhost.

3. SiteGround Security vs Dreamhost Security
Let’s see how each company handles its security.
When it comes to security SiteGround offers PHP7 support and Apache running in a protected environment with suEXEC.
The company has sophisticated IDS/IPS systems that block malicious bots.
ModSecurity an industry-standard web application firewall is pre-installed on all of the shared servers.
It provides auto-updates for WordPress core versions.
DreamHost offers a malware remover tool, free SSL slash TLC certificates, free domain privacy, HTTP/2, mod security, and lua-resty-waf, which is basically a web application firewall.
Which hosting has better security – SiteGround or Dreamhost?
Both hosts offer an excellent level of security.
However, you should always keep your plugins updated as well.
Because of the built-in bot security and a couple of other small details I really like, I would give this round to SiteGround when it comes to security.
4. SiteGround Pricing and Plans vs Dreamhost Pricing and Plans
Now let’s compare the pricing and the different plans both hosting providers offer.
After all this hard-earned money comes from your pocket.
SiteGround Pricing and Plans
SiteGround offers 4 different hosting plans but I’m going to review only the Web hosting ones because these are the ones I use.
SiteGround Startup Plan – $6.99/month
Their cheapest plan costs $6.99 or $14.99 standard and it gives you 1 website, 10 gigabytes of storage, 10,000 monthly visit cap, and a free SSL certificate with daily backups, free CDN, free email, and unlimited databases.
SiteGround Grow Big Plan -$9.99/month
The next upgrade costs $9.99 per month or $24.99 cents once the bonus offer ends.
You get unlimited website support, 20 gigabytes of storage, 25,000 monthly visit cap, free SSL, daily backups, and unlimited database access.
The added features here include on-demand backup copies, speed boost, caching, and staging.
SiteGround GoGeek Plan – $14.99/month
The last and most expensive plan costs $14.99 or $39.99 standard price.
It offers unlimited websites, 40 gigabytes of storage, 100,000 monthly visitor cap, unmetered traffic, free SSL, daily backups, and unlimited databases.
In addition to the standard features offered here, you also get on-demand backups, speed boost, caching, contact support, white label clients, and priority support.
Also please note that SiteGround has a high renewal rate and once your discount period is over you will have to pay the full price.
You can still contact their customer service to get a 5-10% off but it’s still a lot higher than what you started with.

Dreamhost Pricing and Plans
With Dreamhost, you can opt-in for virtual private servers that offer managed performance, security, and updates.
Dreamhost VPS – Starting at $10/month
For a very good price, you get a custom control panel, unlimited traffic, expandable Ram and storage, SSDs, email, SSL, and unlimited domains starting from $10 per month.
Now that’s a bargain.
Additionally, DreamHost offers 2 shared hosting plans. Let’s check them out.
When selected for 3 years, you get a special discounted price of $2.59 including a single free domain, single website and it costs $1.67 per email.
When selected for 3 years you get all the same features as the Shared Starter plan with some vital differences. The first is the price of $3.95/month.
But this time you get unlimited websites and unlimited brandable emails for your domain.
If you have little more money to spend and want more speed and features your next options are the 3 Managed WordPress Hosting Plans.
But because 2 of them are way too expensive and you probably won’t use them I’m going to review the only one I have used.
The Dreamhost DreamPress Plan
For $16.95 per month, you get 1 WordPress website, 24/7 support, a free domain, 100,000 monthly visitor cap, 30 gigabytes of SSD storage with unlimited emails, on-demand backups, one-click restore, jet pack free pre-installed, and some other good features like one-click staging.

Which hosting offers a better pricing plan – SiteGround Or Dreamhost?
If you are on a really tight budget then you should go with Dreamhost because they are cheaper and don’t have a high renewal rate.
But if you care more about speed and features then you should pick SiteGround.
Use this link to get their best price.
In my opinion, there isn’t a clear winner here because Dreamhost is cheaper but SiteGround is more expensive and fast.
Whichever you choose you won’t make a mistake.
After all it’s all about how much money you are willing to spend.
5. SiteGround Features vs Dreamhost Features (Differences)
Now let’s check some of the main features of both hosting companies and see what are the main differences you should know about.
SiteGround offers a free content delivery network integration.
This means that multiple geographically distributed groups of servers work together to provide fast delivery of the content to the visitor, no matter where they are in the world.
They also provide custom caching, staging, and restore data and email accounts with even the most basic plans.
DreamHost offers dedicated VPS packages with better storage, bandwidth, and free domain privacy.
You also get a free domain name for 1 year even with their cheapest plan which is something not many hosts provide.
Which hosting has more benefits – Siteground or Dreamhost?
Even if SiteGround doesn’t offer VPS packages or a free domain name I believe they are the winner here because of the huge amount of extra features you get.
For example I really like a their custom made speed cache plugin that you get if you pick their more expensive plans:
When activated it managed to improve my website speed from 2.7 to 1.9 seconds instantly.

6. SiteGround Customer Service vs Dreamhost Customer Service
Having good customer service is essential when you have problems or questions.
Let’s see how each hosting company manages their customers.
SiteGround Customer Service
When it comes to customer support, SiteGround offers 24/7 support through live chat, phone, and email through a ticketing system.
Click here for more information about their customer service.
Their response time is quite fast and from my experience, I can tell that they really know what they are doing and do really help when needed.
As you can see from this screenshot they do reply very fast after you have connected with a rep which is really important.
Also it took me less than 1 minute to get connected as well.
Nobody has the time to wait hours and get canned responses.
Dreamhost Customer Service
DreamHost on the other hand has 24/7 support only available through email while live chat is only available in the Pacific standard time zone ranging from 5:40 AM to 9:30 PM.
As you can see you have to click some buttons until you reach a real human which is not the best as well.
And that can get really complicated if your problem is not listed inside…
Who offers better customer service – SiteGround or Dreamhost?
As you can see SiteGround offers more and faster options to contact them.
You also get instantly connected to a person instead of having to click a bunch of options and hoping they have what you look for.
So in my opinion this round is definitely won by SiteGround.
Now let’s see which one of the 2 hosting providers is the better choice for you.
Overview and the winner – Who is better: SiteGround or Dreamhost?
In my opinion and experience, the clear winner of this battle is SiteGround.
While both hosting services offer a wide array of different features, SiteGround is the better all-around option to the custom-built tools and a bigger number of features it provides.
You will not go wrong with any of these two hosts, but in the long-term, you will need some features such as custom caching, cheaper upgrades, and solid response time.
When that time comes, SiteGround will have your back.
It’s not a massage service, but a hosting service doesn’ get any ideas.
With all of this summed up, you should now be able to pick the right hosting package for yourself and skyrocket your online presence.
