My Honest SiteGround Review: Everything You Need To Know
I’m going to start this review by showing you how everything looks right after you choose a plan.
This way you will be able to decide if this company is right for you.
1. SiteGround After Purchase Setup & Ease Of Use
In 2020 SiteGround did one important step that changed everything.
They upgraded their Cpanel with a custom-made and easy-to-use new menu.
And to be honest I love it.
It is now very easy to navigate and search for different things.
I will now show you how it looks by doing a quick install of a couple of things so you can see how easy and quick this actually is.
How to install an SSL certificate on SiteGround
With their new design installing Cloudflare or an SSL certificate hasn’t been easier.
Here’s how to do it.
For the SSL certificate, you just go to security, click on SSL manager, select the domain and click the “Get” button.
It’s literally a one-click install.
It’s that easy literally I’ve only clicked one or two buttons and it’s done.
Once your SSL certificate has been installed, then you just go to actions and enforce HTTPS, click on that button and we’re done.
As you can see the website has a little lock icon on it which means that the installation was successful and our new certificate is valid and working properly.
So hopefully this shows you how easy it is to navigate through SiteGround’s dashboard.
I’ll also show you how easy Cloudflare is to install in the next section.
Is SiteGround user-friendly and easy to use?
All things considered, I rate SiteGround 10 out of 10 for setup and ease of use.
I really can’t fault them with anything in this section and I think all users, especially beginners would love how clean their new interface is.
It makes navigating around very easy and fast.
Overall I’m very impressed and really like what they have done.

2. SiteGround Website Speed Performance Test
To test the speed test I’ve installed the basic WordPress 1-click installation and used the basic theme.
Afterward, I used GTmetrix to test out the speed of the initial website.
According to the results I received, the website loaded in just 1.1 seconds.
This is super fast and they’re showing great promise considering I have not optimized the website at all yet.
Next, I’ll go one step further and update my theme, incorporate some additional plugins, and use images to boost the overall page size.
Please note that the speed will be a bit slower but that’s because I’m trying to replicate what I would in real life.
If you’re overwhelmed with how to optimize your website for speed and performance, my course contains everything you need.
Stay tuned to learn how you can download it for FREE.
In addition to the plugins, I’m also going to configure optimum settings for their SG optimizer plugin by turning on static, dynamic, and Memcache.
I am also installing free Cloudflare and Shortpixel image optimizer.
This will make the test more real because it will replicate what you would normally do in real life.
After all of that is completed I’ve redone the test and the speed is now 1.9 seconds.
This is really good because it’s way under Google’s recommendation of 3 seconds.
If I have to be honest SiteGround is one of the fastest shared hosting platforms that I’ve tested.
Their SG optimizer plugin seems to be living up to the expectations.
So now I’m going to deactivate the SG optimizer and replace it with the free plugin called WP fastest cache.
Now let’s see how the loading speed has changed.
The new speed is now 2.7 seconds, which is 0.8 seconds slower.
So I would say there is enough of a difference here for their GrowBig and GoGeek plans to be worth that extra money only when you have enough traffic coming in.
In the beginning, I wouldn’t worry about it and I would just stick to their StartUp plan.
Want more information about the plans?
Now, moving on to uptime.
3. SiteGround Uptime Performance Test
Using an Uptime robot, I have monitored the stability and performance of SiteGround for the last 30 days and can report that their uptime is 100%.
That’s right, their downtime was zero minutes. In fact, the last time my site was down with SiteGround was around 90 days ago which is amazing.
You really can’t beat that.
How fast is really SiteGround? – My Results After The Tests
Overall I would rate SiteGround’s speed and performance and 9 out of 10.
I’ve given them 9 out of 10 because their server speed is really fast and after many tests, I can say that SiteGround has one of the fastest shared hosting plans on the market.
In addition to that, they really stood for what they promised on their website and the uptime is even better than that.
Instead of 99.99% uptime, I received 100%.
In my opinion, SiteGround is a really fast and reliable hosting that’s worth a try.
Here’s a quick question for you.
Do you think SiteGround’s page load speed of 1.9 seconds is faster or slower than what you expected?
Please let me know what you think in the comments below.
4. SiteGround Customer Support Rating
SiteGround has a few different options you can use to contact them with.
Whether you want to call, send them an email, or use their live chat, they are available 24/7 to help you out.
It is widely considered that their customer service team is among the best in the industry.
But is this really the case?
In order to find out the truth, I would test this claim myself by asking SiteGround’s customer service team 3 simple questions on live chat.
Question 1: My website is affected by a virus. Can you help me and do something?
Question 2: Can I have a quick question about the SG optimizer plugin. Can I get it without a special plan?
Question 3: Hi, I’m a newbie so can you help me install my SSL certificate and Cloudflare because I don’t know how to do it.
These are the results I got.
Answer Result 1:
The website was checked for viruses on the spot, but they didn’t want to remove it.
Even if it’s not perfect they did it for free and were able to tell me which files can be infected.
That way I can go and delete them one by one.
Answer Results 2:
I was able to resolve my query within 5 minutes, and even if you take into account the wait time, that’s pretty quick.
In regard to my final question, SiteGround immediately installed my Cloudflare CDN and SSL certificate.
They did that for me and I didn’t have to click a single button on my end.
And the response time for that was good as well. It took them a little more than 3 minutes to do this job.
So regarding their response times, I get this data: 30 seconds, 10 seconds, and 3 minutes and 15 seconds.
That averages out to be around 1 minute and 20 seconds of wait time during the day which is definitely the fastest response time I’ve tested so far.
How fast is the SiteGround support team? – My Results
All things considered, I have to rate their support 9 out of 10.
I’ve given them 9 out of 10 because their support team was helpful, responded fast and they were willing to search the site for viruses.
In addition, their response time is the best I’ve ever had from any online service, including those outside of the web hosting world.
I just took one point off because they did not help with the removal part of the virus scan.

Now let’s compare their shared hosting plan in this review.
In fact, that is what most people seek.
Which hosting plan is the best and why?
Let’s find out.
5. Pricing Options For Siteground Shared Hosting Plans
Although SiteGround also offers other higher-end hosting solutions like managed cloud hosting plans I will review the cheaper and more versatile shared hosting plans I personally use.
I’m only mentioning them so you know they exist when you are ready for an upgrade.
SiteGround currently offers 3 shared hosting plans.
The StartUp, GrowBig, and GrowBig plans.
The StartUp Plan Review
With the StartUp tier currently costing $6.99 per month, you are limited to just 1 website and 10 gigabytes of webspace, which seems quite expensive to me considering it was about half this price early in the year before their new pricing model was released.
But in case you need more than just 1 website you would need to check their more expensive packages.
They are called GrowBig and GrowGeek and will cost you $9.99 and $14.99, which is more reasonable and comparable to other hosting providers.
But because of their new pricing model, I no longer consider SiteGround as a budget hosting provider.
However, I do believe they are still one of the very best in terms of performance and I still have my own personal account with them.
I will explain to you who I believe SiteGround is suitable for later on in the review article.
SiteGround’s StartUp plan vs GrowBig and GoGeek
Apart from the standard increase in web space and website visits the main difference that sets these two plans apart from their StartUp plan and honestly, many of the other hosting providers is their speed optimizer plugin called SG optimizer.
On the StartUp plan, you only get the first level of caching, which is the static caching, but on their GrowBig and GoGeek plans, you get all three levels, which also includes dynamic and Memcache.
So I’m going to go all out and get that GoGeek plan so you can see how the whole process looks like.
But before I do I want to tell you something important…
6. SiteGround Domain Names – Should you buy them?
I really don’t recommend that you buy your domain name from SiteGround or any other hosting provider, as they always charge you 15 to $20 per year for just the domain name.
And then they will add on another 10 to $15 for domain privacy.
So that means overall, you’re going to have to fork out up to $30 per year for a domain name.
Other reviewers, don’t tell you about this disadvantage because they’re afraid they’re going to lose the sale, but I just want it to be upfront and honest with you and provide you with the full knowledge to make an informed decision.
Instead, I recommend you buy all your domain names from namecheap.com.
I use them myself for my domain names and they have been great.
So the main advantage you can see over here is if you buy your domain name from Namecheap, you will get privacy protection for free.
And all that for under $10.
I’ve also got an article you can read if you’re interested in purchasing your domain name through Namecheap.
However, if you don’t care about the price and you think you’re going to stay with SiteGround for the long term, then, by all means, pick a domain name from them.
Let’s continue with the live demo.
7. SiteGround Live Demo – How to make an order
After you’ve selected your plan, enter your domain name and click “Proceed”.
Now fill out all your private information.
Next, we come down to this section.
Now it’s time to pick the location for the data center.
SiteGround has six locations for you to choose from and I always recommend you choose that location, which is closest to most of your customers.
Example: If your target audience lives in Australia or New Zealand, then I would choose Australia as my location.
But if your customers are worldwide, then I would definitely want to choose the United States.
SiteGround also comes with a very flexible monthly. 12-month, 24-month, and 36-month plans.
All their plans used to cost the same as their previous pricing structures so it didn’t matter how long you choose you would always get the same monthly price, but now their cheapest plan is the 12-month plan.
So they are not incentivizing you to buy three years as everyone else does.
They want you to buy for only 12 months and then renew at this massive increase of $39.99 per month.
I really don’t like this new strategy of SiteGround and I just think it’s a bad business model.
It just doesn’t make sense why their 24-month plan and their 36-month plan would cost more per month than their 12-month plan.
Anyway, I would just pick the 12-month plan and for the next part is the SG site scanner.
This one, I would definitely recommend you not buying as it is not necessary.
Once you’re happy with everything click “Pay Now”.
Is SiteGround Too Expensive and is it worth the price? – My Results
SiteGround’s pricing gets a score of only 5 out of 10.
SiteGround used to be slightly more expensive than other hosting providers, but they made up for it, with their performance and speed.
But now with the new price hike, I really don’t think their price is great at all and I kind of give him a better score than this.
So if you’re someone who only needs one website or it’s just the beginning of starting out, I would 100% not recommend SiteGround at this price for you.
I have a better recommendation, which I will share with you in this article.
If you are someone with a budget and just want the fastest hosting money can buy then SiteGround may still be the best option for you.

My SiteGround’s Honest Recommendation – Should you buy it or not?
Overall, I have given SiteGround an average score of 8.5 out of 10 because they really are one of the best shared web hosting providers I’ve tested.
They have one of the best speeds money can get, their interface is one of the cleanest and easiest to use, and their support is also fast and helpful.
You just can’t beat that perfect combination.
So this is my recommendation for you:
Whether you’re a beginner or advanced user looking for the best overall shared hosting provider, I believe SiteGround is a very worthy option that I think you should really consider.
However, if you’re on a budget and can’t afford the fairly expensive price of SiteGround, then I don’t think they’re the right option.
The choice of the right hosting provider is crucial for the success of your business, so it must be done right.
But if you’re happy with SiteGround, then click this link to get their best price and choose a plan.
And that was everything for this article.
