Bluehost vs Dreamhost vs Namecheap 2021 Comparison: Which is the fastest hosting?

Which among Bluehost, Dreamhost and Namecheap shared hosting providers is the fastest?

Knowing the fastest shared hosting provider is very important in web development.

Hi, my name is Zee, and in this test comparison, you will know the fastest shared hosting provider among Bluehost, Dreamhost, and Namecheap.

I run the following shared hosting providers with the best and reputed speed testing platforms. At the same time, I will discuss the differences in geographical performance and their initial pricing. Sounds great?

Let’s get more into it.

Using these three categories, I will help you find out which shared hosting provider works best for you.

1. Speed Testing

I will run a series of tests using the following platform: Time to First Byte, Performance Score, Time to Interactive, and Page Speed.

2. Geographical IP Address Lookup (Speed Test)

I will do a test from the east and west coasts to see the speed differences of Bluehost, Dreamhost, and Namecheap in terms of the IP addresses’ difference.

3. Shared Hosting Provider Pricing

I will have a quick initial price introduction for the following shared hosting provider: Bluehost, Dreamhost, and Namecheap.

Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Which One Works the Fastest? (Real Test)

Which among Bluehost, Dreamhost, and Namecheap is the fastest? And to answer this question, we should use consistent and reliable speed testing software.

Additionally, to perform the speed test among these hosting providers, I needed a website. So I decided to put up a simple website with a single 1500 words blog post. Then, I put all my typical website plug-ins.

After setting up the website, I ran several tests to see which shared hosting providers work the fastest.

Considering Google prefers websites with less than 200 millisecond response time, I decided to run a test with the following reliable and consistent speed test platforms.

Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Time to First Byte

Among these three, I used the platform Bytecheck to measure the time of the first byte. The bytecheck test was performed on each web host ten times.

Here is the result of Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Bytecheck Speed Test.

The average result showed that Namecheap was miles ahead of its competitors. It has an impressive response time of 211 milliseconds.

Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Performance Score

Next, I used the Audits Tab Tool in Chrome. To go here, click view developer, developer tools, and open the Audits Tab.

Simulated throttling and mobile are what I selected to smooth out the network hiccups, and I unchecked everything except performance.

After running the test, ten times on each hosting provider, Namecheap clearly won again in terms of performance score.

Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Time to Interactive

I realized that I had to dig deeper than simply relying on the high-level score generated. So, I decided to use the reliable PageSpeed Insights and run five tests on each hosting provider.

Here, we are checking their time to interact with metrics. Surprisingly, Dreamhost rose on top with an average speed of 1.54 seconds.

As expected, Namecheap followed the lead with a tiny difference in time speed.

Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Page Speed

At this moment, I knew that I have to use an even more sophisticated tool to measure the page speed consistently. In this stage, I used an open-source project called Sitespeed.io.

I proceeded with cloud installation and ran 100 tests on each hosting provider.

I was amazed by the result. Again, Namecheap came on top in terms of server response time.

On the other hand, Dreamhost won in terms of web page full loading.

Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Geographical Performance

If you analyzed the results, Namecheap had the fastest response to the request, but Dreamhost can load the whole web page the most immediately.

Now, here comes the big BUT.

Sitespeed.io is affected by the distance of the visitors to the server where your website is.

With that being said, I checked on the geographical IP address lookup and found out that the servers of Namecheap and Dreamhost are both in Los Angeles, while Bluehost is in Utah.

To move my test servers from the East Coast (New Jersey) to West Coast (San Francisco), I used Vultr, my favorite cloud service provider.

Then, I ran 100 tests for each hosting provider.

The results showed that Namecheap was the fastest with 88 milliseconds average server response time and entirely loaded web pages twice faster than Dreamhost.

Now, you might be wondering how Namecheap beat Dreamhost when in fact, I used the exact same test.

Honestly, there are several unknown factors here that we do not yet. To my speculation, Dreamhost could have optimized long-distance requests better than Namecheap.

Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Initial Pricing

Another thing that you might want to consider is their prices.

Namecheap is on the lead. Its cheapest hosting plan is only $2.88/month.

On the other hand, Dreamhost starts its pricing at $4.95/month.

Lastly, the pricing of Bluehost starts at $5.95/month.

Basically, Namecheap has the cheapest price among them all.

Bluehost vs. Dreamhost vs. Namecheap: Who is the winner?

All in all, Namecheap is undeniably the winner of this speed test battle. It nailed everything from Time to First Byte, Performance Score, Server Response Time (East Coast), and Page Speed (West Coast).

On the other hand, Dreamhost gave a good battle too. In fact, it managed to beat Namecheap in terms of Time to Interactive, Web Page Full Loading (East Coast), and Prices too.

Sadly, Bluehost did not outrun any of its two competitors to any category.
